Financial Spreading Software

About Financial Spreading Software

A working reference for the credit analyst, chief credit officer or lending operations lead who has been asked to replace the spreadsheet that spreads their commercial borrowers, and who needs to know which of these products has ever been installed at an institution their size.

Who this is written for

The reader we picture runs or works inside a commercial credit department at a bank or credit union between roughly $200 million and $10 billion in assets. Three analysts, a queue of tax returns, a CRE portfolio that needs rent rolls read, and a committee packet due Thursday.

That reader does not need to be told spreading is slow. They need to know which product reads a 1065 with four K-1s attached, which one rolls the guarantor into the debt service calculation without a side spreadsheet, and which vendor will sell them spreading on its own rather than as the first module of a three-year origination contract. Those are the questions the pages here answer first.

What counts as spreading software here

Three tests. The product has to standardize borrower financial data into a spread a credit officer would recognize, it has to be purchasable today, and there has to be something published outside the vendor's own slide deck that confirms it exists in production.

That admits a wider set than the phrase suggests. Full credit analysis suites, spreading-only point solutions, tax return extraction engines and ledger connectors all end up in scope, because all four get recommended when a lender searches for spreading software. Where a product is a partial answer, its entry says which part it does and what the buyer still has to solve elsewhere.

What is deliberately out of scope

Spreadsheet software. The phrase financial spreading collides with spreadsheets often enough that it is worth stating: nothing on this site is a substitute for Excel in general, and Excel is not covered as a spreading product even though most of this work is still done in it.

Also out: corporate treasury and cash management platforms, FP&A and forecasting tools built for the borrower's own finance team, tax preparation software, and consumer credit decisioning. Loan origination systems appear only where a spreading capability inside them is separately documented.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, write to editors@financialspreadingsoftware.com with the source and it gets fixed, with a new verification date on the page. Vendors are welcome to correct a fact about their own product, and several facts on this site would improve if they did. Nobody gets to approve their own ranking.
